Down Niagara Falls in a Barrel

Coming back from Spring Break feels like I am in a barrel going down Niagra Falls. This week has presented a workload that is testing me; a workload from work and my doctorate program. I have not had a sufficient amount of time to dedicate to any one topic. I feel that my literature review is developing. I am beginning to find my focus as I have delved more into the research behind my literature review. I have started to explore the transferability of the technology skills students use for entertainment to academic purposes. How can understanding the current and expected skills of students inform the skills and knowledge teachers must have when they enter the classroom?

The feedback I received was helpful and implemented into a revised draft. I intend to share this with another peer for additional feedback. I also recently learned about the program Nvivo, but I have been struggling with getting it to accept the file for my Zotero library. I would love to use that to analyze my literature.

My portfolio has been “in progress” since my first semester when I was able to view a live portfolio defense at the annual meeting. I created my webpage and have periodically added to it throughout the program. I have all my requirements met, with only revising papers for publication left on my to-do list. My goal is to schedule my defense for the end of April. Members of my cohort have been sharing portfolio pages and we have been providing feedback and inspiring each other. Their support through this program has been continuous and the best.

Of the three items to discuss in the reflection, my methods section is the least complete. I have a method outline complete, with my selected instrument briefly described. I am still leaning towards a multi-method research approach. I would like to interview or observe students in the digital tools course or complete a focus group and use that data to complement the quantitative data gathered from the survey.

What Follows 'The End'?

I successfully defended my portfolio today. It was one of those moments that I had built up in my head. I spent an insane amount of time reflecting, researching, and preparing for this milestone. Now
