One significant thing I have learned about the development stage of the ADDIE model is the time necessary to develop the training materials. As I am building a training from scratch, I am building everything myself. I am utilizing a technology-based training that will be self-instructed asynchronously. Building my training this way accommodates all of our schedules, especially since we are not in the same zip-codes.
I have created a Google Classroom to utilize as my learning management system (LMS). I plan to assign each participant one learning modal. The main theme of the training is self-led learning. There are two goals of the training which support the main theme of the training; those are the instructional practice of presentations and the instructional practice of discussions. Since each participant is being assigned a learning modal, they will learn about and develop an activity with the two instructional practices.
To meet the goals and objectives I will compile common use sample video artifacts for the team to review. Then through collaboration boards the team will discuss prior experiences and thoughts regarding the instructional practices and experiences in the learning modals. In the past I have used Google Jamboards to facilitate collaboration and “brain dumps” with my students. Google Jamboards is an application created by Google; users can post sticky notes on slides allowing for a jumble of ideas to be placed. I used this during online learning for students to make predictions, complete KWL charts (know-what to know-what was learned), and other collaborative and discussion activities. For the reflective and evaluative responses I plan to utilize a Google Form.
Another application I am considering is Nearpod. Nearpod is a presentation tool that allows the creator to present a lesson live or allow it to be student-led. The student-led feature fits in the student-led asynchronous format of the training. Within Nearpod are all the tools I would need for the training. However, part of my training is presenting technology tools that would be beneficial to a curriculum that adapts to the three learning modals. If I choose to go the Nearpod route, then I would utilize a collaboration board within Nearpod. It functions much the same as a Padlet (mentioned in Blog 4). If I use Nearpod for the reflective and evaluative responses, they have a feature for open ended responses to be built into the presentation.
Regardless of which applications I choose to use, technology will be present in the training. The primary media will be the video artifacts demonstrating the successful use of the instructional strategies in the different learning modals.
